Thoughts on the job

"...the US Department Of Commerce has reported that 1 in 10 infotech jobs lacks a warm geek."
"High Tech Embraces Offshore Employees", Wired, March 1998

What do you do?

As you might have already guessed, my primary responsibilty is the Internet, intranet and extranet and all that it entails. In addition, I do some desktop publishing, some desktop support for both PCs (less) and Macs (more), and just about anything else I'm asked to do.

What is your title?

I have no title. If pressed I might use "The Web Guy" or the snotty sounding "Director of Media Services", but I really don't want one. Titles tend to define what you are permitted to do and I want to be able to do anything and everything (and general do).

Have you developed any business philosophies over the years?

A time clock is redundant.

How you dress is irrelevant, other than underwear.

Office space should be based on need, not ego.

Reserved parking spaces promote out-of-shape management types.

Motivation and aptitude are worth more than any degree.

Benefits are not a retirement fund and health insurance. Those are necessities.
